The Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of Housing, Abdullatif Al-Mashari, has approved the final decision for the waterfront project at Jahra Corniche and the removal of the Western Doha Chalets, according to Al Jarida newspaper.
In the letter ratifying the decisions made by the Municipal Council during its ninth ordinary meeting of the third session of the thirteenth legislative term, held on December 9, 2024, Al-Mashari approved the Kuwait Municipality’s stance on the minister’s objection. This objection involved not removing the chalets in the Jahrawaterfront project or compensating their owners.
The owners confirmed that the continuation of the chalets posed a major obstacle to the implementation of the waterfront project in Jahra (Corniche), located between the western Doha terminal to the east and the Jahra Nature Reserve to the west.
The chalets, to be removed, are being used under temporary contracts with the Ministry of Finance, which manages state property and regulates the obligations of all parties involved. The Ministry of Finance reserves the right to remove them at any time.
