Weather shift; autumn brings dust, allergies, and fluctuating weather

Kuwait enters climatic fall on September 1, astronomical autumn begins September 22; cooler evenings ahead as fall season approaches; September marks transition from summer heat to fall breezes

Bader Al-Omara, member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, announced that Monday, September 1, marks the beginning of the climatic fall season, bringing more moderate weather in Kuwait. While daytime heat will continue, evenings will gradually become cooler with a slight chill during late-night hours.

Al-Omara explained that the astronomical autumn will officially begin on September 22, when the sun aligns directly above the celestial equator, resulting in equal day and night hours.

He noted that this period is often marked by unstable weather, with fluctuating atmospheric pressure causing dry, dusty winds, reports Al-Rai daily.

He pointed out that the first phase of autumn, known as “Safri,” is distinguished by weather instability and the spread of seasonal illnesses such as colds and allergies.

The name “Safri” is believed to derive from the yellowish air caused by dust or the body’s paleness due to illness.

Al-Omara added that the season also brings a gradual drop in temperatures, rising humidity, and the onset of rainfall in some areas.

Humid evenings may cause fatigue and discomfort, while shifting wind directions—often southeasterly or variable—can worsen allergies and asthma.
