The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Saturday evening that the US military has launched a new wave of targeted airstrikes against Iran in retaliation of deadly Iranian missile attacks on US forces in Jordan.
The military operation, which commenced at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time, is specifically designed to further degrade Iran’s capabilities to threaten international commercial shipping and maritime navigation within the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The strikes also serve as a swift punitive measure against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces, who were responsible for launching drone and ballistic missile attacks against American service members stationed in Jordan the previous night.
Earlier, the CENTCOM announced that two US service members were killed and another remains missing following Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks in Jordan. Four more American service members were injured in the assault. – Kuna
