UN marks international day to end violence against women

As part of the “Orange the World” campaign, the vibrant painting event hosted by the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office amplified the message of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence through creativity and reflection.

This year, Kuwait joins the global community in advocating for an end to violence against women and girls through a comprehensive series of joint activities led by the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in cooperation with key local and international partners.

As the world approaches the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the UNiTE campaign this year calls for increased accountability, stronger national strategies, and enhanced support for women’s rights organizations.

 

The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, in partnership with Art and Dine, hosted a vibrant painting event for United Nations staff and partners to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

As part of the Orange the World campaign, we gathered in vibrant orange attire to stand united against gender-based violence. Through creativity and reflection, we amplified the message of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

The day concluded with the symbolic release of orange balloons, spreading hope and raising awareness for a brighter, safer future for all.

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is a global campaign aimed at challenging violence against women and girls worldwide. Originating from the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute, coordinated by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership in 1991, the campaign runs annually from November 25 “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women” to December 10 “Human Rights Day).”

Under the theme “Towards 30 Years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women,” the campaign calls on governments, civil society, the private sector, and all UN partners to strengthen their commitment and accelerate progress towards eliminating violence against women and girls.
