ULC KKB clinches title at Thanima Kuwait’s 19th National Tug of War Championship

The highly anticipated Onathanima Tug of War Championship, a sporting celebration for the Malayali community in Kuwait, concluded with tremendous excitement at this year’s venue, “MT Nagar.”

The event was inaugurated by international volleyball player Shivani Chauhan, followed by the ceremonial flag-off conducted by Sayeed Arif, who received the flag from Jins Mathew.

Showcasing exceptional strength and teamwork, ULC KKB emerged champions of the 19th National Tug of War Championship, securing the Sanselia Ever Rolling Trophy along with a cash prize of KD 401.

Oceans Engineering Winners Kuwait claimed the runner-up position, taking home the Blue Line Ever Rolling Trophy and KD 301, while Global International Friends of Rajeesh – A secured third place, winning the Nest N’ Mist Ever Rolling Trophy and KD 201. Brothers of Idukki Life Zone Gym finished fourth, receiving their Ever Rolling Trophy and 101 dinars.

In the quarterfinal stage, the teams put on impressive performances and advanced with distinction and several other teams also added great excitement to this year’s tournament.

Individual excellence was recognized across categories:

  • Best Promising Player: Vishnu (Oceans Engineering Winners Kuwait)
  • Best Back: Bhuvanesh Thavakkattu (ULC KKB)
  • Best Front: Jobin Joseph (Brothers of Idukki)
  • Best Coach: Harshad KVC Palakkad (Global International Friends of Rajeesh – A)
  • Best Captain: Chandhu (Oceans Engineering Winners Kuwait)
  • Best Player of the Tournament: Nawaz Puthupparambil (ULC KKB)
  • Fair Play Team: Brothers of Idukki
  • The Thanima Sports Icon Award was presented to Saji Pappachan.

Women leaders of Pen Thanima – Sheelu Shaji, Usha Dileep, Diana Savio, Vibi Vijesh, Jiji Dominic, Anila Shamon, Jency Binoy, and Swapna Joji – distributed individual cash awards and medals.

The tournament activities were coordinated by Mary Litty Jacob, Binoy Abraham, Jins Mathew, Jino K. Abraham, Shobin Syriac, Habeebullah Muttichoor, Maneesh Vaas, Ruhail VP, Jacob Mathew, Jiomon Joseph, Freddy Francis, Lalu, Shaji Varghese, Jomi Jose, Saleem TP, Shamsuddin Kukku, Sangeeth, Shamon Jacob, Prashanth Chellappan, and Vinod.

Onathanima 2025 united Kuwait’s Malayali sports enthusiasts and expatriate community, standing out for its exceptional organization and spirited competition.
