Two Indian flights disrupted mid-air; safety concerns spark passenger panic

. . . Hyderabad–Phuket Air India flight returns shortly after takeoff

An Air India flight (IX110) bound for Phuket, Thailand, returned to Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport shortly after takeoff today morning, according to the Times of India.

Although the reason for the return has not been disclosed, flight tracking data shows the aircraft took off at 6:40 am and was due to land in Phuket by 11:45 am.

In a separate incident earlier on July 16, an IndiGo Airbus A320NEO en route from Delhi to Goa made an emergency landing in Mumbai after one of its engines failed mid-flight.

According to PTI reports, the aircraft (VT-IZB) safely landed at 9:52 pm, despite panic among passengers. A full emergency was declared at Mumbai Airport.

Neither airline has publicly commented on the incidents. The back-to-back disruptions have intensified scrutiny over flight safety, especially after the June 12 crash of an Air India flight to London, which killed 270 people shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad.
