Turkish firm set to lead Kuwait railway project as documents move to Audit Bureau

Given the project’s significance, the review process will be expedited, and once the Public Authority for Roads & Transportation receives the bureau’s nod, the contract will be signed and work will begin.

The railway project, set for completion by 2030, will span 111 kilometers, connecting Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, with Kuwait’s northern station and passenger terminal in Al-Shadadiya, covering two million square meters.

In a significant move towards finalizing the tender process for the study and detailed design of the railway project, the Public Authority for Roads & Transportation has sent the project documents to the Audit Bureau. This step is part of the procedures to secure the bureau’s approval before signing the contract with the winning bidder, the Turkish international company PROYAPI.

Sources told Al-Jarida newspaper that the railway project is one of the most prominent development initiatives within Kuwait’s Vision 2035, aiming to enhance land transport infrastructure and achieve economic diversification by providing a sustainable means of transport for both goods and passengers. They added that the Audit Bureau will review and audit the project documents in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

It is expected that the review process will be expedited given the project’s importance as a key pillar of national development. Once the Public Authority for Roads & Transportation receives the bureau’s approval, the contract will be signed with the winning company, and work on the project will commence.
