Ambassador Sonmez shared insights about the Turkish National Library, often referred to as the nation’s library. This renowned institution serves as a testament to Türkiye’s dedication to knowledge, education, and cultural preservation.

Spanning an impressive area of 125,000 square meters, the National Library is Turkey’s largest and most visited library. Its architectural grandeur is complemented by its extensive collection, which encompasses rare manuscripts, historical documents, and contemporary works.

The ambassador added that the nation’s library is not merely a repository of books; it is a center of vibrant intellectual activity. It accommodates approximately 5,500 people and welcomes scholars, researchers, students, and creative minds from all walks of life. Whether one seeks scientific activities or simply a quiet reading corner, the library provides an incubating environment for all such pursuits.

Her Excellency pointed out that this event, held at the Kuwait National Library, represents a milestone in cultural exchange and mutual understanding. With the opening of the Turkish Book Section, it invites readers to explore the richness of Turkish literature, history, and thought. It serves as a bridge between nations, encourages dialogue, and celebrates the universality of human expression.

Ambassador Sonmez concluded her speech by expressing her hope that the Turkish Book Section will ignite passion, inspire creativity, and strengthen the bonds of friendship between Turkey and Kuwait. She reminded the audience that the written word has the power to transcend borders and unite hearts.

Siham Al-Azmi, the Director of the National Library, expressed in her speech during a celebration held on this occasion that the Kuwait National Library is a cultural edifice representing a noble bridge between Kuwait and the diverse, integrated cultures of the world.

Al-Azmi expressed her happiness at the opening of a special section for Turkish books for the first time in the library, stating that it is a cherished occasion that confirms their belief that the exchange, coexistence, and interaction between cultures are the shortest paths to spreading friendship, peace, and cooperation among the peoples of the world.

She expressed hope that this work will open a wide gateway to the ancient and rich Turkish culture through cooperation with libraries and cultural centers in Turkey.

She also hoped that this occasion would serve as the first step towards concluding similar protocols for cultural cooperation in the future between the Kuwait National Library and its counterparts in sisterly and friendly countries worldwide, taking further steps that we deem necessary to support rapprochement between peoples.

She expressed her constant aspiration to create cultural bridges with the international community, based on the fact that cultural cooperation between nations is not only a way to enrich awareness and knowledge but also to consolidate relations between countries and promote world peace.

Al-Azmi extended her sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to establishing this event and making it a success, thereby creating a fertile nucleus for Turkey’s culture and history within the library. She added that this development will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and consolidation of relations between our peoples and our two countries.
