9th IBA Mega Basketball tournament 2024 concludes successfully
A long eight day journey of basketball conducted by the Indian Basketball Association(IBA)- Kuwait from 18th of April – 26th April writ off successfully with a wholesome participation of more than 1000 school athletes for the Thomas Chandy Ever Rolling trophy and around 200 athletes from Open men and women category, vying with each other to clench the Susamma Elanjickal Memorial Ever Rolling Trophy and the Koshy Elanjickal Memorial Everolling Trophy.
The basketball floodlight court of UIIS reverberated with the hoots and cheers of athletes, beating the scorching heat and laying themselves up for dunking in the baskets.
IBA has always believed in grooming and nurturing the budding athletes, inducing in them the fundamentals and technicalities of the game and playing like a true sportsman carrying themselves to the world.
The school level matches and the Open category men/women matches were conducted in a league cum knock out basis to scoop out the winners in the different categories.
Each and every basketeer fought hard and tough to savour the taste of success. 8 year consecutive champions UIS fought hard to retain their winning crown.
The closing ceremony was blessed with the presence of an array of dignitaries, Dr. Betty Chandy, Academic Vice chairperson Group of Schools, Dr. Toby Chandy Vice Chairman Finance- Group of schools, Mr. Joel Jacob Executive Administrator Group of Schools, Mr. C. Radhakrishnan Principal United Indian School, Mr.Sunoj Nambiar Director of Indians In Kuwait.com ,Mr.Khalid Al QallafHead Coach Kuwait Basketball Team,Mr. Koshy Abraham Chairman IBA, Mr. D K Dileep General secretary IBA and all executive members of IBA. Chief Guest Dr. Betty Chandyreleased the annual souvenir – BASK-IN 24 by handing over the copy to the chief editor Mr. Anup John.
The final cauldron of matches kicked off meticulously with the Street Squad Men’s team crowning themselves as winners.
Crusaders turned up as Runners up followed by DBO third position respectively, Women’s category DBO reigned supreme as Winners, Runners up Chosen Ones, DBO (B) in the third position respectively. Mr. Faisal Hamza General Manager Metro Medicals, Mr K.S. Varghese MD Gulf Advanced Trading, Mr. Ryan Quadros Al Askafi, Mr. NijasKasim Director ,Vibgyor TV as Guest of honor, Mr. Jacob Varghese Director Blueline Company, Mr. Dominic & Mr. Jinu social workers blessed the function with their benevolent presence. All in all the 8 day long journey of classy basketball ended up successfully, with each athlete carrying with them visible trophies and also invisible trophies of perseverance, hard-work, endurance, patience, true sportsmanship.
