Trump’s Gulf visit historic achievement for regional diplomacy — Sheikh Salem

In a distinguished gathering held at her Diwan in Al-Shamiya, Dr. Haila Almekaimi hosted former Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for a dialogue forum titled “Reading U.S. President Donald Trump’s Visit to the Gulf Region.” The event brought together a select group of ambassadors, diplomats, and experts in international affairs.

The forum was attended by prominent figures including Ambassadors Abdullah Bishara, Khaled Al-Duwaisan, Abdulaziz Al-Sharekh, Ghassan Al-Zawawi, as well as Jamal Almekaimi , Suleiman Al-Badr, Major General Faisal Al-Jazzaf, Dr. Sami Al-Adwani, Abdul Latif Bin Nakhi, Yaqoub Al-Mutawa, Dr. Ayman Al-Zaid, Mohammed Al-Thunayan, and Salah Al-Othman, according to local Arabic media.

In his remarks, Sheikh Salem described Trump’s visit as historic, noting that it marked the first foreign trip of the U.S. President in his second term. He emphasized that Gulf diplomacy played a central role in shaping the visit’s outcomes, which yielded political, strategic, economic, and technological gains for the region.

He added that the world is moving toward a multipolar system, with intensifying competition among major powers reflecting this evolving geopolitical reality. In light of these dynamics, he called for stronger Gulf and regional cooperation to face the challenges of the future.

Sheikh Salem also praised the deep strategic partnership between Kuwait and the United States, highlighting its resilience and long-standing importance, particularly during his tenure as Kuwait’s ambassador to Washington and as Foreign Minister.

At the conclusion of the forum, Dr. Almekaimi expressed gratitude for Sheikh Salem’s participation, commending his enduring contributions to strengthening Kuwaiti-American relations.

She affirmed the forum’s commitment to continuing such insightful discussions to enrich Kuwaiti civil society and enhance awareness of regional and international developments.
