US President Donald Trump said he would make a decision following a Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that left several people dead and injured.
“I have just learned of an attack on Riyadh Airport and will be making a decision,” Trump said, without specifying what action Washington might take.
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said the airport was targeted on Saturday, amid continued attacks on civilian aviation facilities. Airport operations were temporarily suspended while authorities assessed the damage and verified the safety of the facilities.
Saudi Arabia condemned the attacks before the United Nations Security Council, warning that the Houthis’ targeting of civilians and threats to maritime security in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait extended beyond Yemen, threatening international peace, global trade and supply chains.
Saudi Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Wasil said the Kingdom would not allow Yemen to become a platform for threats to its security or freedom of navigation. He stressed that no armed group should be allowed to impose its will on Yemen and the region by force.
