Top official and accomplices jailed in major bribery scandal

The Court of Cassation sentenced a citizen, the head of a department at the Civil Information Authority, to five years in prison dinars.

Additionally, his two accomplices, an Egyptian and a Bangladeshi, were sentenced to three years in prison each.

Investigations revealed the bribery case after reports were received by the Director General of the Civil Information Authority that an employee was rushing to issue cards in exchange for sums of money. He was assisted in this by cleaning, service, and guard workers at the authority’s headquarters.

By following up on civil numbers and the automated system for issuing cards through the data of the relevant department employees, suspicious operations were confirmed until the network consisting of citizens and expatriates was seized.
