Temperature drops, icy mornings sweep Kuwait as winter digs deep

Cold surge expected to persist for several days, keeping nights and early mornings particularly harsh

Kuwait and much of the region have slipped into the grip of a pronounced cold spell, driven by the southward extension of a dense cold air mass that has sharply dragged temperatures down across the country.

Meteorologist Issa Ramadan said the wave is being reinforced by moderate to occasionally active northwesterly winds, a combination that has significantly amplified the chill factor.

He noted that while actual temperatures remain low, the felt temperature during the pre-dawn hours has dipped below zero degrees Celsius, with an even sharper bite that was felt early Sunday morning.

According to Ramadan, the cold surge will persist for several days, keeping nights and early mornings particularly harsh before a gradual rebound in temperatures sets in toward the end of the week, reports Al-Qabas daily.

He urged residents to exercise heightened caution during nighttime and early-morning hours, especially in open and desert areas.

The intensity of the current conditions was evident on New Year’s Eve, when exceptionally cold weather swept across Kuwait — most notably in desert regions — following the passage of a cold front.

That system was accompanied by a marked strengthening of northwesterly winds, further deepening the sense of cold and marking one of the season’s most biting episodes so far.
