Suspension of sports activities to continue until further study

Minister of State for Youth and Sports Affairs, Dr. Tariq Al‑Jalahma, has announced the continued suspension of sports activities pending further evaluation, following a recommendation from the joint committee tasked with assessing the impact of the country’s exceptional circumstances on the sports sector.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Public Authority for Sports confirmed that the committee’s weekly meetings are part of ongoing efforts to monitor developments and determine the appropriate timing and conditions for the safe resumption of sports activities.
The authority noted that the committee reviewed the latest regional developments and their implications for the sports landscape, underscoring the importance of balancing the return of sporting events with the safety and well-being of all involved.
During its second meeting, the committee examined several proposed scenarios for restarting sports activities in line with established health and regulatory guidelines. Discussions also focused on implementing clear mechanisms to ensure adherence to precautionary measures across clubs and sports organizations.
The statement further highlighted the importance of continued coordination with relevant authorities to support informed decision-making based on accurate risk assessments, while also addressing the technical, administrative, and logistical considerations associated with resuming competitions and events.
