Kuwait Health Ministry sets required vaccinations for Hajj pilgrims

The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday the essential vaccinations required for Kuwaiti citizens and residents planning to perform Hajj, as part of preparations to ensure the health and safety of pilgrims and in line with Saudi health regulations.

The ministry said vaccination services and issuance of approved health certificates are available through preventive health departments at primary healthcare centers. It stated that mandatory vaccinations include meningitis (meningococcal vaccine), as well as COVID-19 requirements, which can be met either through vaccination for eligible groups or proof of immunity according to approved standards.

Eligible groups for COVID-19 vaccination include the elderly over 65, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic diseases such as heart, respiratory, kidney, and neurological conditions, as well as patients with blood disorders and those with weakened immune systems.

The ministry also noted that proof of immunity may be fulfilled through receiving updated vaccines for 2025-2026, completing primary doses between 2021-2024, or documented recovery from infection in 2025.

In addition, it recommended optional vaccines such as seasonal influenza and pneumococcal vaccination to reduce respiratory complications during Hajj, especially in crowded conditions.

It also advised vaccinating household members of pilgrims, particularly those who have not received meningitis vaccines or whose last dose was more than five years ago. The ministry stressed that all vaccines under Kuwait’s national immunization program are approved by Saudi health authorities and should be taken at least 10 days before travel. – Kuna
