STVS launched across Kuwait to enhance driving test experience

Colonel Fahd Al-Essa, Director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department, announced the official launch of a new Smart Testing Vehicle System across (STVS) all testing departments in Kuwait’s six governorates.

This initiative, spearheaded by the Education Sector of the General Traffic Department, began yesterday following the awarding of the testing vehicle tender to Super Service Company, according to Al-Jarida daily.

Al-Essa described the new vehicles as a major qualitative leap for the Education Department’s testing divisions. Unlike the older models provided by training companies, the new vehicles are equipped with advanced technologies and offer a completely different testing experience.

Among the upgrades are modern cameras installed throughout the vehicle to monitor and record the examinee’s performance. These recordings help verify the accuracy of test results in case of any objections.

Additionally, each car features an internal microphone system linked to a wireless device operated by the examiner. This allows the examiner—stationed remotely in an office or control area—to guide the test taker through the driving assessment.

Al-Essa highlighted that the technology reduces strain on driving testers, who were previously required to be present at the testing areas in all weather conditions, often under risk—especially with first-time test takers. The older system occasionally resulted in accidents involving both personnel and equipment.

To further improve the process, Super Service Company has set up dedicated lounges within the education departments, providing a comfortable environment for examinees while they await their tests. Previously, candidates had to wait outdoors in crowded and often chaotic conditions.

Al-Essa also emphasized that new guidelines prohibit citizens and residents from using their private vehicles for the driving test. Only individuals with special needs are exempt, as their vehicles are legally equipped with customized features.

Moreover, the prices for examination vehicles—whether for private cars, public transport, construction vehicles, or motorcycles—have been standardized in coordination with the General Traffic Department.

This modernized system aims to streamline the driving test process, enhance safety, and ensure a more organized and efficient experience for both examiners and candidates.
