Strict Ramadan fundraising rules, violations lead to license suspension

The Director of the Department of Charitable Associations and Charities at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Abdulaziz Al-Ajmi, has announced strict regulations for fundraising during Ramadan, emphasizing that any violation will result in the immediate suspension of licenses and legal action against the offending organization.

Speaking at the “Committed” meeting held at the Ministry of Social Affairs, he addressed representatives from the Kuwait Union of Charitable Associations and Charities, outlining the rules and conditions governing donations during the holy month of Ramadan.

Al-Ajmi emphasized the significance of this partnership, highlighting the state’s dedication to advancing charitable efforts. He commended the Union of Charitable Associations and Charities for launching the “Committed” initiative, which aims to uphold regulatory compliance among charitable organizations during the holy month of Ramadan and promptly address any violations.

Moreover, Al-Ajmi clarified that the “Committed” initiative goes beyond mere regulation; it reinforces the legal and ethical responsibilities inherent in charitable work. Given that Ramadan is a time of heightened social solidarity, adherence to regulatory guidelines is essential to ensure donations are distributed fairly and transparently. He emphasized that the trust donors place in charitable organizations demands the highest standards of accuracy and integrity to achieve meaningful and positive outcomes.

Al-Ajmi highlighted that the initiative aligns with the country’s vision for digital transformation, ensuring that the distribution of Iftar meals is efficiently organized to prevent overcrowding and maximize the benefits for those in need.

The President of the Federation of Charitable Associations and Platforms, Saad Al-Otaibi, stated that the “Committed” initiative is a necessary response to the demands of the current era, which calls for balancing the spirit of generosity with adherence to regulations. He emphasized that compliance with guidelines is not a limitation but rather a safeguard to ensure the sustainability of charitable work and strengthen its credibility.

Al-Otaibi outlined that the initiative is built on four key pillars aimed at ensuring a violation-free Ramadan season. These include adherence to laws and regulations governing charitable work to uphold the legal framework, fostering public trust in charitable associations and platforms, enhancing transparency in fundraising and distribution, and ensuring that aid reaches its beneficiaries fairly and credibly.
