Seven international alliances have purchased tender documents for the Shagaya Renewable Energy Project (Phase Three – Project Two), which aims to produce 500 megawatts of power.
The seven bidders are among nine alliances and companies that were prequalified to compete for the strategic project, reliable sources told Al-Rai.
.
The sources noted that the participation of seven qualified alliances reflects strong competition for implementation, indicating growing interest from international players in Kuwait’s renewable energy sector.
The same sources added that the increasing number of competitors serves the public interest, as it enhances price competitiveness and improves the quality of technical proposals submitted for the project.
The sources explained that the successive phases of the Shagaya project align with the government’s strategy to activate public-private partnerships and expand private sector participation in major energy projects.
The initiative also supports Kuwait’s national plan to generate 15 percent of its electricity needs from diversified energy sources by 2030.
Shagaya Phase Three – Project Two is being launched as part of the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy’s efforts, in cooperation with the Public-Private Partnership Authority, to expand renewable energy capacity.
The project forms part of a broader national strategy to increase electricity production from clean and sustainable sources and strengthen energy security in the country.
