Save just 10% of power to prevent summer outages: MEW

A nationwide reduction in electricity consumption by just 10% could be enough to completely eliminate the need for planned power outages during Kuwait’s summer peak load periods, according to the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy.
MEW sources said the highest planned outage load this year reached 909 megawatts in April — less than 10% of the peak recorded load of 17,640 megawatts during the same month last year, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The sources explained that a 10% reduction would free up around 1,764 megawatts, which is more than enough to maintain grid stability and avoid scheduled blackouts.
The officials stressed that this modest reduction is well within reach, provided there is a collective commitment from government entities, citizens, and residents alike.
The Ministry continues to ramp up its public awareness campaigns, urging individuals and sectors to adopt simple yet impactful energy-saving habits.
