Ramadan to begin this year on 1st March

As Muslims across the world eagerly anticipate the start of the holy month of Ramadan in a few weeks, an Egyptian specialized institute revealed its scientific calculations on Sunday, regarding the start date of the fasting month.

Ashraf Shaker, head of the Astronomy Department at the Egyptian National Institute for Astronomical Research, announced that Ramadan will begin astronomically on March 1, 2025.

Shaker confirmed, as reported by the institute’s Facebook page, that the full moon in Ramadan will occur on March 14, 2025. He also pointed out that this date will coincide with a complete lunar eclipse, which will last for 6 hours and 3 minutes.

Furthermore, Shaker added that according to astronomical calculations, the holy month of Ramadan will begin on March 1, making the lunar eclipse coincide with the full moon on March 14.

Shaker explained that although the eclipse will be visible in European countries and other parts of the world, it will not be visible in Arab countries, according to statements reported by the first channel of Egyptian television.

Importantly, Shaker stated that according to astronomical phenomena, a solar eclipse would need to occur two weeks before or after the lunar eclipse.
