
Qatar’s Amiri Diwan has announced the passing of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who died on Sunday at the age of 74.
In an official statement, the Amiri Diwan said: “With hearts believing in God’s will and decree, the Amiri Diwan mourns the great loss of the nation, His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away this morning, 27 Muharram 1448 AH, corresponding to July 12, 2026, at the age of 74.”
Sheikh Hamad served as the Amir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013 before voluntarily transferring power to his son, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
During his reign, Qatar underwent significant political, economic, and social transformation, emerging as a prominent regional and international player.
