Prince Harry and Meghan reportedly moving back to Britain with children

. . . after living in California for six years

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly preparing to return to Britain more than six years after moving to the United States, according to reports in the British media. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to move to a private home outside London, with reports suggesting that the relocation could take place within weeks.

The couple stepped back from their roles as working members of the British royal family in 2020 and subsequently moved to California, where they have been based with their two children According to BBC reports and other British media outlets, the couple’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are expected to attend a British school from September.

Archie is 7 and Lilibet is 5. The reported schooling plans are among the clearest indications that the family may be preparing for a longer-term return to Britain rather than a short visit. The reported move is expected to be to a private, non-royal residence. Details of the family’s exact location have not been officially announced.

Neither Harry nor Meghan has publicly confirmed the reported move. Buckingham Palace has also not issued an official statement. Harry and Meghan married in 2018 in a high-profile ceremony that attracted worldwide attention.

The couple later announced that they would step back as senior working royals. They moved to North America and eventually settled in California, where they have pursued independent professional and charitable projects.

The reported return comes at a time when Harry has indicated that he would like to improve his relationship with his father, King Charles III. Harry and Meghan made a private visit to Britain earlier this year and reportedly met with the King. It was also reported to be the first time Archie and Lilibet had seen their grandfather since 2022.

The extent of any broader reconciliation within the royal family remains unclear. The reported move should therefore not be viewed as confirmation of a return to royal duties. Harry and Meghan are no longer working members of the monarchy, and there is no indication that they are seeking to resume those roles.

For now, the reported relocation remains based on media reports rather than an official announcement from the couple. If the family does move to Britain, their return would mark a significant change in their lives after more than six years in the United States. Their decision to have the children attend school in Britain could also mean that the UK will play a larger role in the family’s life in the years ahead.
