Pope Leo XVI on Tuesday made a rare and direct appeal to US President Donald Trump, urging him to find a “way out” to end the ongoing war with Iran and de-escalate rising regional tensions.
The Pope, described as the first American to hold the papacy, referenced recent remarks attributed to Trump expressing a desire to bring the conflict to a close, reports Al-Rai daily.
“I heard that Trump recently stated that he wants to end the war,” Leo said, adding, “I hope he will look for a way out.”
The statement marks an unusual and pointed intervention from the Vatican, highlighting growing international concern over the escalation of the conflict and its broader implications for regional and global stability.
