PBC and CCIAP forge stronger economic ties between Kuwait and Portugal

The Portuguese Business Council Kuwait (PBC) proudly announces the successful conclusion of the Arab-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIAP) business mission to Kuwait. This strategic initiative was designed to strengthen economic, investment and trade ties between Portugal and Kuwait, further solidifying the growing partnership between the two nations.

As Portugal continues to be recognized for its quality, innovation, and talent, and Kuwait advances its economic diversification goals under Vision 2035, both nations have significant opportunities to strengthen their collaboration for mutual growth and development.

The delegation, led by Mr. Nuno Anahory, Executive Board Member of CCIAP, was organized in close partnership with Mr. António Azevedo Campos, President of the Portuguese Business Council in Kuwait. Their joint efforts created a valuable platform for Portuguese businesses to engage with key stakeholders in Kuwait, fostering meaningful discussions on investment opportunities and economic collaboration.

Summary of the Mission

The delegation, consisting of over 12 Portuguese companies representing key sectors such as energy, real estate, investment funds, construction, cybersecurity, tourism, security services, and various industries, visited Kuwait from February 18 to 20, 2025. This mission held special significance as it coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Portugal and Kuwait, underscoring the longstanding mutual respect and commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Throughout the mission, a wide range of business opportunities were explored, with several Kuwaiti companies expressing keen interest in forming partnerships with Portuguese enterprises. Discussions centered on trade, infrastructure development, and investment-driven innovation, paving the way for new avenues of economic collaboration between the two nations.

Key Highlights of the Mission

  • Reception at the White Palace: The delegation was honored with a reception hosted by His Excellency Sheikh Mubarak Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah at the White Palace, where discussions centered on Kuwait’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
  • Meeting with Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI): Under the coordination of Mr. Firas M. Al-Oda, the delegation engaged in productive discussions with KCCI. The focus was on strengthening partnerships, trade and economic ties.
  • Engagement with Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA): The delegation met with His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Sabah Humoud Al-Sabah, Assistant Director General for Investment Operations at KDIPA. Discussions highlighted Kuwait’s strategic initiatives to attract high-value investments and create a business-friendly environment for international enterprises.

Collaborations with Key Stakeholders

  • Professional Services Firms: Renowned firms such as KPMG and ASAR provided invaluable guidance on conducting business in Kuwait, assisting Portuguese companies in understanding regulatory frameworks and legal structures required for market entry and investment. Their expertise was instrumental in helping businesses navigate corporate structuring, compliance, taxation, and investment laws, ensuring a smooth transition into the Kuwait market.
  • Key Kuwait Investors in Portugal: The delegation held important meetings with leading Kuwait investors active in Portugal, further strengthening economic ties and paving the way for new investment flows between the two nations. These discussions focused on real estate, energy, tourism, agro-food, healthcare, infrastructure, and industrial partnerships, positioning Portugal as a strategic gateway for Kuwait capital into Europe.

The PBC and CCIAP extend their deepest gratitude to His Excellency Hamad Al-Hazeem, the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Portugal, for his outstanding diplomatic efforts in enhancing bilateral economic ties.
