Passport Update Easier for Indians as Spouse Name Can Be Added Without Marriage Certificate

In a welcome relief for Indian passport applicants, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has introduced a significant change to the documentation process.

Citizens can now include their spouse’s name in their passport without the need to submit a marriage certificate. Instead, a joint photograph accompanied by a declaration—referred to as Annexure J—will be accepted as valid proof.
