Parliamentary coordination meeting draws 41 representatives

The National Assembly will hold its opening session on April 21 after the constitutional deadline, allowing each representative the choice of attendance.

Informed sources told Al-Rai newspaper that the National Assembly intends to hold its opening session on Sunday, April 21, after the constitutional deadline (14 days post-election), allowing each representative the choice of attendance.

On Sunday, the National Assembly held a parliamentary coordination meeting attended by 41 representatives. Representative Saud Al-Asfour announced after the meeting that five representatives had expressed their apologies for being abroad.

Al-Asfour announced that the meeting discussed preparing a mini-legislative agenda due to the short duration of the first session. He indicated that “high on the list of priorities are addressing the high cost of living, social assistance, the Election Commission, real estate financing, issues concerning the disabled, the Kuwait Petroleum Industries Company, extending judicial authority to matters of nationality, and amending election laws.”

He revealed the restructuring of the coordinating committee regarding the arrangement of legislative priorities and parliamentary committees in the 2024 Council. He also mentioned that there will be coordination among representatives regarding the formation of committees, with the aim of reaching a consensus.

He expressed hope that “we will experience government-parliamentary cooperation that contributes to fulfilling the aspirations and general welfare of the people.”

The members of the coordinating committee are Saud Al-Asfour, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Saqabi, Dr. Badr Al-Dahoum, Hamad Al-Obaid, Abdullah Al-Anbai, Badr Nashmi, Dr. Adel Al-Damkhi, Dr. Mohammed Al-Dowsary, and Muhammad Gohar Hayat.
