Over 350 patrols mobilized to manage back-to-school traffic surge
Security and traffic patrols were deployed to facilitate traffic and ensure security around various schools and universities, said Colonel Fahd Al-Issa, Director of the Traffic Awareness Department.
With the return of school, university, and college students on the first day of the second semester, the country experienced traffic jams today, particularly on roads undergoing major maintenance by the Ministry of Works and the Public Authority for Roads & Transportation, Al Jarida newspaper reported.
To address the congestion, the Ministry of Interior, represented by the field security sectors, implemented a traffic security plan for the return of schools. The plan was supervised in the field by Major General Yousef Al-Khada, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Operations and Traffic Affairs, with the participation of patrols from the General Directorate of Traffic, the General Directorate of Al-Najda Police, the Public Security Sector, and the General Directorate of Central Operations.
Colonel Fahd Al-Issa, Director of the Traffic Awareness Department, stated in a press release that over 350 security and traffic patrols were deployed this morning to facilitate traffic and ensure security around various schools and universities.
Al-Issa added that traffic monitoring was carried out through the Central Operations Room, with changes made to the timings of some traffic signals on the ring, main, and internal roads.
He noted that traffic congestion occurred during peak student and employee entry times, especially on roads undergoing major maintenance by the Ministry of Works and the Roads Authority, as announced earlier.
Al-Issa also reported 13 minor traffic accidents on the first day, which were handled by traffic and security patrols across all roads. Additionally, awareness and alert messages were broadcast through Kuwait Radio, advising the public on accidents, traffic jams, and alternative routes to avoid congestion.
