Over 100,000 Nepalis thrive in Kuwait’s workforce: Ambassador

H. E. Ghana Shyam Lamsal, the Nepal Ambassador to the country, said they are currently working on bringing skilled workers, including nurses and doctors to Kuwait.

• Kuwaiti citizens can obtain a visa online or on arrival at the airport, and that about 1,000 Kuwaitis visited Nepal in 2023, with the numbers on the rise.

• Nepal has embarked on a firm investment policy, recently reviewing eight major investment-related laws and introducing a simplified policy for comprehensive services to facilitate new investors.

His Excellency Ghana Shyam Lamsal, the Nepal Ambassador to the country, confirmed that over 100,000 Nepalis are employed in Kuwait across diverse fields, noting a continuous increase in their numbers.

He added in a statement to reporters on the sidelines of the investment promotion ceremony for Nepal that they are currently working on bringing skilled workers, including nurses and doctors. He pointed out ongoing discussions with the competent authorities in the Kuwaiti government on this matter, emphasizing the presence of many Nepalese nurses currently employed in private sector hospitals in Kuwait.

The ambassador highlighted that Kuwait’s trade exchange and investments in Nepal are limited, underscoring numerous opportunities in the carpet industry, food and agricultural materials—especially ‘Al-Hil’—tourism, information technology, and the energy sector. He emphasized that Nepal ranks as the world’s second-largest exporter of water, following Brazil.

He also noted the various facilities available to foreign investors in Nepal, including unrestricted money movement, and mentioned that India and China are currently the largest investors in the country.

Ambassador Lamsal stated that there are two direct flights from Kuwait to his country daily via Kuwait Airways and Al-Jazeera. He noted that Kuwaiti citizens can obtain a visa online or on arrival at the airport, and that about 1,000 Kuwaitis visited his country in 2023, with the numbers on the rise.

Nepal paves the way for new investors

The Nepalese ambassador said that his country has embarked on a firm investment policy, recently reviewing eight major investment-related laws and introducing a simplified policy for comprehensive services to facilitate new investors.

The government’s strategic focus extends to vital sectors such as energy, ICT, tourism, infrastructure development, and others. Notably, Nepal has made great strides in energy exports and is now selling electricity to neighboring India, thus promoting regional economic integration.

Nepal’s appeal lies in its stunning geography, ranging from the lush tropical plains of the Terrai to the highlands of the world’s highest peaks, including Mount Everest ‘Sagarmatha’.

The country’s geographical diversity is matched by its cultural richness, characterized by more than 100 ethnic groups, each with unique traditions, languages, and arts. Nepal’s ideal religious tolerance is a beacon of harmony, where diverse religions coexist peacefully.
