Over 1,000 ‘Noble Deeds’ former citizens regain access to bank accounts

Forgery cases still excluded from the directive

The local Kuwaiti banks have received official instructions to lift restrictions on individuals whose citizenships were revoked for reasons classified as “noble deeds.”

These individuals will now be allowed to access and operate their bank accounts freely, with no additional banking procedures imposed, aligning their treatment with non-Kuwaiti clients and those affected under Article 8, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to informed sources, the banks were provided with a list of over 1,000 names of individuals who previously held Kuwaiti citizenship in the “noble deeds” category. While their citizenships were revoked, banks have been directed to remove any account freezes or restrictions and resume standard banking services for them.

However, the directive excludes individuals whose citizenships were revoked due to forgery or fraudulent claims. Banks have been instructed to keep those accounts frozen, as flagged by the relevant authorities.

The sources added that banks will continue deducting scheduled loan payments from the accounts of those covered by the directive. Going forward, accounts will only be frozen in such cases if specifically requested by the authorities.
