Zakat House continued to double its efforts during the month of Ramadan, despite the coronavirus epidemic circumstances, which did not affect its charitable endeavors in the holy month where there is a religious obligation to be generous, organize charitable work and help the needy, said the official spokesman at the Zakat House, Hamad Al-Marri.

Al-Marri said, “The house continued during the holy month to receive aid requests via its website, as it provided nearly KD1,988,130 to 5945 families in the country. The amounts included monthly aid for widows and divorcees, and the elderly who have no financial income or a breadwinner, and provide partial aid every 3 or 4 months for low-income families, as well as good loans for construction, restoration, treatment, and debt repayment with an enforceable ruling.

He pointed out that due to the exceptional health conditions affecting the country, instead of the Iftar banquet project organized every year in a number of mosques and sites in various regions of the country, a project involving distributing Ramadan food baskets to needy families was conducted with approximately 12,262 families benefiting in various regions of the country.

He added, “The Iftar banquet project was conducted outside Kuwait in 14 countries in different continents in cooperation with officially approved charities in these countries. In Africa, the project was implemented in seven countries, namely Somalia, with 4 projects, 3 projects in Mauritania and two projects in Kenya, and one project in Benin, Senegal, Niger and Tunisia, while in Asia, the breakfast project was organized in four countries including Sri Lanka and Yemen, 3 breakfast projects and two breakfast projects were completed in Palestine and one in Bangladesh, and in Europe, 3 charitable projects were organized in Albania, Bosnia, and Kosovo respectively.”

Al-Marri noted that the project cost totaled KD50,000 for 66,667 breakfast meals distributed to the deserving people.

Al-Marri indicated that “Zakat House received zakat from donors and benefactors of all kinds, whether in cash, gold or stocks,” and he went on to thank the distinguished benefactors for their confidence in the Zakat House, and extended thanks to all workers for their efforts in the charitable endeavors, and to provide assistance to every beneficiary through institutional work, which is common among Kuwaiti youth who love charitable work.
