The machines and human hands work closely to complete the stages of the Al-Ghous Street project, which extends from the Seventh Ring Road to Fahaheel Road (212), on schedule — to complete the vital project which will facilitate the movement of vehicles from six southern regions — Al-Egaila, Jaber Al-Ali, Hadiya, Al-Raqqa, Fahd Al-Ahmad and Al-Sabahiya.
During a visit to one of the project work sites, it was noticed that the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport is racing against time to complete the 10.5 kilometers long project which will restore the spirit to the people of those areas, reports Al-Rai daily.
The project manager, Eng. Salem Al-Dosari, said, “The importance of the project is limited to facilitating traffic along Al-Ghous Street, after getting rid of the traffic signals, and developing the current intersections and making them all free intersections, by constructing 3 flyovers along the project, and making roundabouts under the bridge to serve the residential areas” surrounding these intersections, with the addition of reverse detours on some intersections, improving and facilitating traffic and increasing traffic capacity.
Al-Dosari explained, “The project contract was signed on April 15, 2021, at a cost of 59.780 million dinars, but work on the vital project started on June 10 of the same year, and is expected to be completed on schedule on June 9, 2024,” pointing to the 30 percent completion of the project despite the expiration of 52 percent of its duration.
He added, “The PART officials are keen to implement the project on time, so we are trying, through the contractor executing the project, to speed up the pace of work to ensure that the project is completed without delay.”
He went on to say, “We, as a supervisory body over the implementation of the vital project, try as much as possible to overcome the obstacles and difficulties facing the executing contractor, in order to avoid any obstacles that could delay its implementation, especially since the project passes along areas with a high population density, so we first follow-up and coordinate with the various authorities to take the required approvals, so as not to affect the workflow on the site, and then media coordination by notifying road users of traffic diversions and alternative routes, coinciding with taking all security and safety measures to ensure the safety of road users during work periods.”
He stated, “The implementation of road project development work is a very complex matter, and it requires a tremendous effort to complete it successfully, as the implementation of these works intersects with many services belonging to several agencies, so we are very keen on continuous coordination with those agencies to take advantage of the time factor.”
