The General Traffic Department has collected 66,000 dinars in traffic fines in just 24 hours — dawn Saturday and until the dawn of Sunday — after the decision issued by the Ministry of Interior, which forbids foreigners to leave the country without paying traffic fines.

According to well-informed security sources, these fines were collected from foreigners and citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The infractions were detected through departments established at land, air, and sea ports.

The Al-Rai daily reported that approximately 50 men and 20 women had their travel plans thwarted due to severe violations that couldn’t be settled through the ministry’s website.

Some individuals were also facing travel bans and vehicle impoundment. Notably, a significant portion of the accumulated violations belonged to Asians.

The General Traffic Department has made it known that fines related to speeding or improper parking in spaces designated for those with disabilities cannot be paid using official platforms or the Ministry of Interior website. It has been stressed that individuals must proactively address these violations by visiting the Violations Department well before their intended travel dates.

Furthermore, the GTD has implemented a swift system for recording and issuing violations in a matter of 6 minutes from the moment the violations are identified. Notifications are then transmitted through the “Sahel” application to the respective violators.

This approach is expected to enhance the collection of fines, whether during government transactions, travel preparations, or foreign resident permit renewals.

The security sources also highlighted that the rapid issuance and recording of violations within the system will safeguard public funds and contribute to a reduction in careless behavior. This connection between the General Traffic Department and various government entities will serve to curtail the recurrence of violations and foster a greater sense of responsibility on the roads.
