Following the announcement by official spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, a winter vaccination campaign was launched for the 2022-2023 season today through 46 health centers in all governorates across the country. Al-Sanad explained that the campaign includes administering vaccines for seasonal influenza and acute bacterial pneumonia (nemococal).

The official confirmed that immunizations are available in all vaccination centers recognized by the Ministry through its official social media accounts. He also clarified that prior appointment is required to obtain the service which is accessible through the Ministry’s website.

Moreover, the Head of the Infectious Diseases Control Department in the Public Health Sector at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Hamad Bastaki, stressed the importance of getting vaccinated, unless there is any medical interference, as the vaccine reduces the possibility of infection. He added that the vaccine limits complications from infections, as well as, reduces hospitalization.

He specified that as protection from severe complications caused by influenza, pregnant women are recommended to receive influenza vaccines (not pneumococcal) at any time of pregnancy for protection, noting the importance of influenza vaccines for lactating women, children from 6 months to 5 years old, and those with chronic diseases, among others. He also said the vaccine can be given at any time before or after the flu or pneumococcal vaccination, unless there is any objection. He added that these vaccines can be taken at any time during the winter season.
