World Health Organization’s Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Friday warned against the early lifting of restrictions and curfews in many countries around the world in order to maintain pressure on fighting coronavirus.

Easing lockdowns, curfews or travel bans can contribute to the return of pandemic, Ghebreyesus told a news conference.

He said he understood the importance of easing restrictions but that should not be at the expense of recurrence of diseases. Ghebreyesus said it was crucially important to terminate the virus in the right way.

He urged public opinion around the globe to maintain restrictions put in place because they would protect societies from the virus.

Ghebreyesus voiced concern over the spread of the virus in Africa, saying African countries with simple capabilities might encounter difficulties.

He urged the African countries to take preventive measures and to benefit from the financial pledge of the G20 for the African countries.

Ghebreyesus urged medical workers to wear their gears in a proper manner in order to prevent their infection with the virus.
