Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi said that every astronaut chooses his own menu before launching to the International Space Station, and Al Neyadi revealed the foods he chose and took with him, and how they are preserved until eaten on the station.

Al-Neyadi added, in a video clip from aboard the International Space Station, which he posted on his Twitter account (X), that the most important foods he brought with him included “meat, chicken, fish, Turkish bread, plain bread, and canned food such as tuna and sweets,” explaining that “food can be ready” directly to eat, and it can be heated before eating.

The Emirati pioneer added: “I chose a varied menu of food from different space agencies, from Japan, from Europe, and from the main menu.”

He explained that before “we go into space, we try hundreds of items from each country, such as Japan, Russia and Europe, and a comparison is made between the favorite food menus.”

Al Neyadi explained how each astronaut’s food is preserved on board the International Space Station, so that it is identified and its location is known, and so that it is not lost.

Al-Neyadi indicated that “there are general menus of various items for all astronauts,” and said that “the bag in which the food is located must be emptied into the (container), after moving it from the storage place, and registering it on the menu for all the astronauts, so that it is placed in the right place”.
