Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Saturday, that the West is not interested in negotiating with Moscow on the Ukrainian issue.

Lavrov said in an interview with International Affairs magazine that the West held multilateral meetings on Ukraine in Jeddah and Copenhagen without inviting Russia, hoping to persuade developing countries to support the Ukrainian president’s peace plan, reports Al-Rai daily.

He added that Moscow’s vital interests had been ignored. Russia has always been ready for substantive dialogue, and has tried for years to push Kiev to implement the Minsk agreements aimed at resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine, according to Lavrov.

He added that Russia had responded to Ukraine’s call to start negotiations since the early days of special military operations, but the talks were stopped by Ukraine due to Western pressure in 2022. Later that year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky banned any negotiations with the Russian leadership by decree.

The senior Russian diplomat indicated that the Western sponsors are constantly pressuring Ukraine to escalate the situation, stressing that there is no possibility of negotiations between Russia and the West regarding Ukraine at the present time.

He pointed out that Russia considers Western calls for negotiations a tactical trick to buy time and give a respite to the exhausted Ukrainian forces.
