The Central Tenders Committee (CTC) has approved the second extension of the project to survey and prepare a comprehensive database in the country. The German Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental will implement the survey for the benefit of the Environment Public Authority (EPA), Al Qabas reported.

The extension was necessitated by the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic which continues to disturb work to date. The extension date runs until next September end without any increase in the contract value.

The project aims to enhance the EPA’s role in examining and controlling air quality in the country by monitoring the degree of gases in the atmosphere resulting from waste and various landfills. Since its launch in 2017, 100 sensors have been installed in different regions of the country to monitor any negative impact resulting from landfills. The sensors became fully operational in October 2020.
