Representative of the US Treasury Department, who is responsible for the Kuwait file, will hold a series of meetings with the relevant government officials to issues related to combating money laundering and terrorist financing and the efforts made by the government to prevent and confront these crimes and what punishment has been meted out to those who are found guilty.

Al-Jarida quoting sources said, one of the most prominent government agencies with which the senior US official will meet is the Ministry of Social Affairs because it is legally entrusted with the follow-up and supervision of the work of all recognized charity bodies, in addition to being an original party monitoring donations collected to support of internal and external charitable projects.

The sources said the relevant government agencies, including the Ministry of Social Affairs, has made great strides in addressing money laundering and terrorist financing crimes, stressing the ministry’s keenness to provide the heads of boards of directors of all reputed charitable societies, first-hand, with lists of entities and persons on the lists of terrorism, its financing and money laundering activities to prohibit dealing with them.

The source added that “this concern comes within the framework of the ministry’s control over the donations and to ensure the money does not fall into wrong hands and to ward off any suspicions that may affect Kuwaiti charitable work in general, and the charity societies that represent Kuwait in particular.

In this regard, the sources said, the Ministry had issued a circular to charities about the need to continuously update the lists of terrorist organizations, and to include the names of individuals and entities proven to have financed terrorist activities, in line with the requirements and the need for all countries to confront and prevent money laundering and terrorist financing stop supporting individuals who are involved in such activities.
