The US Defense Department has announced the US State Department’s approval of a potential military deal for Kuwait to design and build the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense headquarters complex and related equipment at an estimated cost of $1 billion.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency website Kuwait has requested the design and construction of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense headquarters complex in Kuwait, and related procurement, including provisions for all costs of physical buildings and infrastructure construction, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The total project includes more than twenty facilities, including the headquarters facilities for the civil and military command, in addition to all the engineering studies, designs, construction, and management services required to provide a fully functional headquarters complex.

The department stated that this proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the infrastructure of a major non-NATO ally, which has been an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.

The department added that this agreement will improve Kuwait’s ability to confront current and future threats by modernizing the headquarters of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense and its associated infrastructure, noting that Kuwait will not find it difficult to absorb this infrastructure, support, and associated services in its armed forces.
