The Central Blood Bank announced there is an urgent need for blood type O negative, calling on those who belong to this blood group to come forward to donate blood to save the lives of patients.

The bank explained on its Twitter account, “There are misconceptions about blood donation, including what is reported that iron deficiency will prevent blood donation permanently, indicating that iron deficiency postpones donation until treatment is completed and until iron reaches its normal levels, reports a local Arabic daily.

Before donating blood, the hemoglobin level is checked. It is also possible to donate blood when iron levels are high which can be attained by eating meat, liver, spinach, beetroot, egg yolk and cashew nuts.
