American police have arrested a passenger who tried to open the door of a Delta Airlines plane while it was in flight. The passenger, who was in first class, was seen bizarrely attacking the snack basket during a flight on Friday from Atlanta to Seattle.
A passenger on board the plane confirmed that he saw the man trying to open one of the plane’s doors, noting that he also attacked a stewardess before he was restrained, reports Al-Rai daily.
The passenger added: “The good news is that everyone in first class stood up to help stop the man. He hit a flight attendant, and was restrained.”
He went on to say: “I was not able to determine whether he was mentally ill,” noting that the plane’s path was not diverted. Another passenger explained that the man was trying to fight everyone, stressing that he had to be stabilized until the plane landed safely.
The passenger, who documented the controversial incident with a video clip on Instagram, noted that he jumped out of his seat and offered his help while the man was acting suspiciously.
For its part, Delta Airlines confirmed the incident, describing the passenger as an “unruly customer.” A company spokesperson said: “I can confirm that there was an incident involving an unruly customer on DL316 last Friday.”
He added: “We have absolutely no tolerance for any disorderly behavior on board our aircraft, especially towards our employees and customers.”
