An environmental awareness day under the slogan “Kuwait is cultivating” was held by the United Nations Settlements Program in cooperation with the Canadian Embassy along with the Team of Al-Shamiya Youth Center Reserve in Kuwait.
The program was directed towards social issues, concerning children’s welfare, highlighting agricultural issues, and protection of the environment from climate change. This program was held in conjunction on the occasion of Thanksgiving in Canada.
The Canadian Ambassador H.E Alia Mawani stated, Thanksgiving is celebrated on October 10 every year, it is a tradition to express gratitude for all the blessings in our lives not only for of having our family, health or friends but to also show gratefulness for the environment, by honoring its connection to our lives.
She further added that the event focuses on children because change in the future depends on them. The awareness program committed to recycle plastic containers by putting them to use in simple farming techniques.
Amira Hassan announced that “Urban October is a month which calls attention to issues with regard to urbanization, sustainable cities and anything in co-relation to urban infrastructures.
She further added, this year Urban October is held with the message of being aware of the gap, and by not leaving anyone behind, this is to make sure all multitudes of people are included in the process of urbanization and sustainable urban development.
Chargé d Affairs of the US embassy H.E Jim Holtsnider , expressed his delight and extended his support to his Canadian friends in their Thanksgiving celebrations through this environmental awareness event. He addressed the Kuwaiti youth by admiring their participation, saying this would raise awareness of environmental issues whilst taking a step to put in combined efforts to maintain a pollution free environment by increasing the number of trees in order to make Kuwait safer and greener.
He thanked the youth and advised the parents to encourage their children to participate in such activities for the betterment and health of the future generations, He added, “You are wonderful youth who participated in the initiatives of greening your country, and we will support you.” He also stressed the need for raising the level of greening for improved weather and air quality.
H.E Aliya Mawani applauded the recent increase in the number of women ambassadors. With the induction of 3 new women ambassadors to the diplomatic corps, she stated these ambassadors will be a wonderful addition to the woman’s diplomatic community.
