The Correctional Institutions Sector and Sentence Execution Department of the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation and coordination with the Public Prosecution, has completed the preparation of a special project to renew the detention of suspects arrested in criminal cases ‘online’, instead of taking them to the Palace of Justice building.

A security source told Al-Jarida this project, which includes the preparation of an integrated courtroom inside the Central Prison equipped with a screen on which the judge appears via audio-visual technology, while the accused and his defense will be inside the hall, where the defense will submit all its requests, is expected to be completed in a few weeks. The judge will issue the verdict online.

The source added that if the judge issues a decision to release the accused, all his procedures will be completed inside the aforementioned hall, even if the person is required to pay a financial guarantee, as there will be employees specialized in receiving guarantees. If the judgment is to continue imprisonment, the detainee will be returned to his cell at the prison.

The source explained this new mechanism will largely eliminate the current mechanism, which is the transfer of prisoners from the prison complex in the Sulaibiya area to the Palace of Justice building in the heart of the capital, in addition to overcoming the problem of delays that usually occur during the transfer of prisoners for several reasons.
