The rainfall that was accompanied by thunder storms in Kuwait Friday created a chaotic scene on the main roads of Kuwait with traffic jams in several areas and closure of some roads, while others witnessed rainwater accumulations.

A local Arabic daily monitored high-density congestion in the streets, and traffic was disrupted due to the presence of heavy water pools. The rain water drainages along the streets were unable to contain the rain water and in some areas the drainage systems were seen overflowing.

In the vicinity of the Capital and the roads leading to Jahra Governorate witnessed a complete closure due to persistent rain and in some areas the cars got stuck unable to move.

Meanwhile the official spokesman for the Ministry of Works, Eng Ahmed Al-Saleh, said that a number of tunnels were closed as a precautionary measure by the General Traffic Department in the interest of the safety of road users.

Al-Saleh added told the daily the emergency teams dealt with the water that had gathered along the streets.

The Minister of Works and Minister of Electricity and Water Dr. Amani Bouqmaz held a meeting last evening with the leaders of the ministry inside the operations room in the maintenance engineering sector.

Informed sources said: “Bouqmaz followed up from the operations room the situation on the ground during the rain.”
