The Ministry of the Interior (MoI) has withdrawn thousands of driving licenses from expatriates who have changed their profession and obtained driving licenses in illegal ways reports a local daily.
Sources confirmed that dozens of driving licenses were issued from various traffic departments in an illegal way. The ministry has withdrawn a total of 37,000 driving license due to a violation of traffic laws and change in the profession from 2015 – 2018 January.
To obtain driving licenses, expats have to go through a lengthy process and those who meet salary requirement of KD600, type of profession, graduation degree and residence in Kuwait for 2 yrs, a driving license is issued. It has been found that expats have been obtaining a driving license in illegal ways by cheating on the type of profession to acquire a license and were caught during the renewal of a license as residence renewal reflected that besides changing company their designation also was changed.
Licenses are issued for several exceptions, such as the wife of a Kuwaiti man who is widowed or divorced, women who have children, professional players, drivers, members of nursing bodies, pilots and captains. In addition to judges, prosecutors, consultants, experts, faculty members of universities, journalists, doctors, pharmacists, engineers, teachers, social workers, researchers, mosque imams and sports trainers. The categories excluded from the term of residence are general managers and their assistants, as well as accountants.
