More than 4,800 expatriate engineers who had failed the eligibility test conducted by the Kuwait Society of Engineers (KSE) are to be denied renewal of residence permits.

The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) had mandated that expatriate engineers need to pass the test and receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from KSE before their visas could be renewed.

Sources at PAM revealed that so far 4,809 expatriate engineers had failed to pass the KSE proficiency test and their residences were not renewed, while 1,591 engineers are still awaiting a decision from the evaluating committee.

More than 15,000 Indian engineers are believed to be working in Kuwait and the KSE has said that it will grant NOC only to those who have passed from colleges recognized by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in India.

This decision has placed many Indian engineers in a dilemma, as few technical education institutions in India are accredited with the NBA. Most technical institutions are accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education, which the KSE has not recognized.
