To commemorate Thailand’s National Day, and the birth anniversary of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the Chargé d’affaires at the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuwait, Pisoot Suwanrasami hosted a reception at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on 4 December.

The Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador H.E. Ali Suleiman Al-Saeed was the chief guest at the function, which was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, high ranking Kuwaiti officials, special invitees, members of the Thai community and media personnel.

In his address to the gathering,  the Chargé d’affaires underlined the importance of the 5th of December for all Thai people, “as it was the country’s National Day, Thailand’s Father’s Day, and the birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, who during his 70-year reign had wholeheartedly dedicated himself to improving the lives of the Thai people.”

On the close diplomatic relationship between the Kingdom of Thailand and Kuwait which was established in 1963, Mr. Suwanrasami lauded the cordial ties of 56 years, which were built based on good understanding, constructive cooperation, mutual respect and support for each other.”

Noting that bilateral trade between Thailand and Kuwait has been continually increasing, he pointed out, “In 2018, the total trade between the two countries amounted to US$1.3 billion dollars. And this year, we are expecting the total trade volume to increase at least 5 percent from last year.”

Highlighting that Thailand has long been one of the most favorite tourist destinations he affirmed that it was due to the variety of tourist attractions, as well as the country’s medical tourism with benefits such as reasonable costs, high quality hospitals and medical personnel.

Elaborating, he noted that last year alone more than 74,000 Kuwaitis visited Thailand, and the number is expected to reach 100,000 a year. He added the tourist market in Kuwait is Thailand’s highest constant growing market in the Middle East.

Concluding his speech, the Chargé d’affaires stated, “The Royal Thai Embassy in Kuwait will always provide the best services to Kuwait, its people and business community and  will render our full cooperation for the betterment of relations in all fields between our two countries and people.“

Speaking on the sidelines of the function, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ali Al-Saeed expressed his delight to participate in the celebration of the National Day of the Thai embassy, and noted that the relations between Thailand and Kuwait are very old.

The ambassador also mentioned that Thailand is known as an important tourist destination for Kuwaitis with Kuwait Airways scheduling flights to Thailand on a daily basis.
