Tenants of apartments in residential and business sectors will not be evicted due to a delay in the rent payments during the period of the coronavirus crisis of 3 months, stated in the proposed amendment to the Tenancy Law, reported a local daily.

The second proposed amendment is also advantageous to tenants in these two sectors, as it allows for payment of rents in installments  commensurate with the tenant’s income, in the likelihood that tenants are late with the rents.

The daily reported that these two amendments are an appropriate legal way out to handle the sufferings endured by tenants of residential and business sectors after businesses were forced to suspend activities during the coronavirus crisis.

The relevant authorities decided not to exempt or reduce the rents of the buildings of the residential and investment sectors, and the 50% reduction in rents will only be for the rents of the industrial and commercial sectors, such as shops and offices that Kuwait issued a decision to close following a total curfew or continued to suspended operations during the partial curfew.
