The three-hour traffic campaign launched by the Technical Inspection Department of the General Traffic Department in the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Kabd and Shuwaikh industrial areas, the day before yesterday, resulted in the issuance of 2,840 violations related to security and road durability.

Al-Rai accompanied the campaign, which consisted of 8 security teams that included officers, soldiers and engineers, and was organized under direct instructions from the Traffic Sector Undersecretary, Major-General Jamal Al-Sayegh, under the supervision and presence of the Director of the Technical Inspection Department, Colonel Mishaal Al-Suwaiji.

Colonel Al-Suwaiji told the daily the campaign targeted vehicles which violate durability conditions and not road worthy because they are prone to cause accidents and disrupt traffic movement. He added, all vehicles which were issued a citation have been administratively blocked from plying on the roads until they are repaired and are inspected by the technical inspection department.

He pointed out the Technical Inspection Department of the General Traffic Department is firm and strict and continues to pursue vehicles even those which have been passed by the technical department during yearly inspection. He said vehicles which have been passed by the technical department during routine inspection need follow up to ensure they are road worthy at all times.

He added, many vehicles which have been seized are banned from the roads in the best interest of drivers and other road users.
