Authorities from the General Administration of Residence Affairs Investigations in Kuwait have arrested an Egyptian taxi driver for smuggling female workers from their sponsors’ homes and exploiting their labor for hours and daily wages in exchange for money, reported Al-Qabas Daily.

According to a security source, several reports had come in about female workers fleeing their employers, prompting an investigative team to monitor areas where incidents had taken place. They apprehended the suspect in the Abu Ftaira region while he was attempting to smuggle a maid in a discreet manner.

The accused has confessed to engaging in illicit activities and led detectives to a Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh apartment where they found three female workers who were being harbored there.

A separate investigation led to the arrest of an Asian resident who was operating a fake maids’ office in Farwaniya Governorate. The office’s purpose was to employ runaway women workers who were found hidden within its premises. A total of seven absentees were discovered.
